Fire on High Street

There was a house fire on High Street just up the street from the school fire on Monday night. The city started the Windhams when Engine 201 arrived on scene and called in a working fire, fully involved. A full assignment from North Windham was started. Engine Tanker 102 was second to arrive on scene with a backup line to the building. Engine 102 stopped at the next hydrant down to lay a line on standby. Tower 122 and Tower 101, ET 107, Engine 101, Rescue 102, Rescue 104 and Rescue 505 were all on scene.

Lights Parade

North Windham participated in the second annual Fire Truck Lights Parade down Main Street in Willimantic. Many members and their family decorated ET 102 and Service 202 and the trailer to add even more lights than they already have.

We had a special guest ride on top of Service 102, we call him Smokey the Bear, Jr. (guess why...) Rescue 102 and Engine 102 also joined the line up. The parade goers loved the trailer, decorated with lights, and filled with kids and family of the fire house. It was a great night- just wait until next year!!!!

Fire at Kramer Building

There was a fire in the old library/media center of the Kramer building. It was the old middle school, but now houses Windham Preschool and the school district offices. The city fire department started the Windhams for assistance. Engine Tanker 102, Engine 102, and Rescue 102 responded to the scene. The Engine Tanker was in the front of the building, with other departments on the 2 of the other sides. We hit the hydrant and dragged a 2 1/2 inch line to the front door. Inside the door we had smoke down to the floor. The fire originated in the room directly in front of us across the main hallway. The city had their Engine and Tower at the C side of the building and the ladder at the A/D side.

House Fire in Massachusetts

Kim's sister's brother-in-law (and family) lost their house to a fire last night in Bolton, Massachusetts. They woke up to the smoke detectors, grabbed their 2 young children and got out of the house as they realized the house was on fire. Everyone is ok, but they lost almost everything, including their 2 cars. You will see from the video and pictures they were very lucky.

THE TONES GO OUT JUST PAST 8 AM FRIDAY MORNING FOR A TRACTOR TRAILER ROLL OVER ON THE LAH ROUTE 6 EASTBOUND IN THE HORSESHOE TURN, WITH THE DRIVER STILL IN THE TRUCK. THE TRUCK CAME TO A REST ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE IN THE OUTSIDE LANE. THE FIRST MEMBER ON SCENE REPORTS THE DRIVER IS OUT OF THE TRUCK.

THE TRUCK WAS LEAKING FUEL FROM IT'S FUEL TANKS THAT WERE 3/4 FULL.

MEMBERS HAD TO DAM AND DIKE THE FUEL FROM GETTING INTO THE STORM DRAIN.

THE CLEAN UP CREW HAD TO DRILL HOLES IN THE FUEL TANKS TO GET THE FUEL OUT OF THEM. DEP AND CSP CALLED IN A CLEAN UP CREW AND A TOWING COMPANY TO UPRIGHT THE TRUCK.

Gators Go to Work

Kenny (eagle eye) Maclure from the Windham Center Fire Dept scouted out this fire. The tones went out at 4:54pm on August 6th.

The fire was four different piles of logs throughout the logged area, a good distance up a logging trail off of Jerusalem Road. The gator from North Windham was hard at work. Members from the Windham's working a fire pile.

Service 103 gets up the hill with 200 gallons of water to work on one of the bigger piles.
The Chief got the skider to start and got to play by breaking up the log piles. You can see he found the command post and made himself comfortable.

Out of Town on Vaca

Just out of town for a long weekend in upstate New York at Oxbow Lake. I came across the EMS for the town. I would have passed it if Kim didn't point it out. This is the volunteer ambulance bay on a house. Thank God we have a paid ambulance because the hospital is a long way a way.

I was going to pick up a new saw for the dept while I was up there but it may have been an over kill, and a little on the big side.

NO TIME TO SLEEP

It's been a crazy week at the fire house so far- and it not over. It started with an early morning medical call on Tuesday and it's Thursday now.

We had 6 medical calls (two were unresponsive) and 5 fires calls, 3 of them had actual fires. This is one of the fires. One in the city, first engine in with Car 101. Engine 201 was at another call. One in Windham Center, second engine in on Shetucket Drive.
