Back to Back Fires

Back to back fires Sunday morning was a rough start to the day.
The day after the annual dept dinner, it started in North Windham, and half way through the call the south side had a chimney fire we responded to. Car 404 on scene reported smoke coming from the house. The fire started from a wood stove. Lines were put to work off the first engine on scene. The fire did a good amount of damage to the kitchen but the guys had a good knock down.

Car vs Road Side Sign

Car in to a sign may not seems like a bad accident, but look at the next picture to see how bad it could have been.

That would have made for a bad day if there was a passenger.

Windham Tech Rescue Call for a Women Over the Bank

The site of where a 27 year old female went over
the bank by the K of C.

The bank goes down to the river at over a 40 degree angle.
The river is about 60 feet down and the female
was at the bottom.

A look from the other side across the river.

Where the boat went in up the river.

The call went out as a mva, then the driver ran from the car and went over the bank and down the hill. Car 3 started the Windham Tech Rescue team and South Windham's boat. Car 3 started Willimantic's boat and Rescue also. North Windham's Rescue was started and on scene in minutes and went to work in the rain. We started to get to work on getting down the hill
to help one of the Windham Center fire fighter's that was doing patient care. Willimantic's boat came down the river and we got the female in the boat and across the river to Willimantic's ambulance.

JOLT Competition

Teams of 4-5 firefighters trying to get the best time of taking off two doors and a dash push.
Some of the best times were less than 5 minutes.

A team of four working to take two doors off at the 2009 JOLT competition on Long Island .

Starting off in the window to pop the door.

An old FDNY ambulance that was there for
the Terry Farrell firefighters scholarship fund.

PRE PLAN FATAL FIRE

Over under apartments, four building in one when fire breaks out.

Thing to look for: gas line on the side and a basement access.

Back of the apartment on the top floor has a deck that has no stairs off of it.

There was a fatal fire in this apartment complex last year on Long Island that made me think of taking pictures of the buildings.

PRE PLAN WHAT TO LOOK FOR

Can you find the building at night for a call?

The building is a 16 apartment house that has four doors per unit over under.

This is a look from the end unit to the road.

From the road to the end unit, the unit is more than 200 feet to the end. That is a 2 1/2 to the door with a Wye.

Water Drill

Three Windhams Drill

Two patients in the water about 2-3 feet out.

Two man rescue team in water suits going out to get them.

Working the boat from South Windham's station.

Jason, one of North Windham's newer members, got
into one of the cold water suits saying, "I can't
swim" and I told him to just float then.

"I made the save. I'm the man. Now get me out of this, it's hot in here."
