Willimantic Fire Department started North Windham Fire Dept to the scene of a 2 1/2 story Victorian House fire in the Hill section of Willimantic. Engine 102 hit a hydrant one block over and laid a 5'' line to ET 102 at the house. The ET fed a 1 3/4" line and a 2 1/2" that we stretched to the rear of the house. North Windham Fire Dept worked to get the back under control. The residents have just started to rebuild their home in May.

LAH Grass Fire
Route 6 Plane Crash
On April 22, 2007, at about 1530 or 3:30pm, we had a plane crash on the side of RT 6, about 2 miles from the fire house. The plane was a Piper PA-23, with twin engines. The plane took off from Long Island, New York. The plane nose-dived into the trees and burst into flames about 50 feet from RT 6 which was busy traffic.
The plane burst into flames and started a brush fire. 4 to 5 foot flames were racing to a near by building, with tractors and other equipment with a high fuel load. ET 102 stopped at the hydrant and fed water to the fire line. Engine 103 foamed the plane with North Windham members on the line.
The preliminary report is that wind was the cause of the crash.

I'm a member at the North Windham Fire Department, a volunteer department in North Windham, Connecticut. We run over 500 calls a year, from medical calls, to car wrecks and structure fires. We have had some pretty amazing experiences, and have made a lot of good friends over the years. Hope you enjoy seeing what we are all about as I post on this blog.
